Adult Shyala, i chose different colours for the background because if they looked all the same then maybe it wouldnt have the same effect. But i kept the same design because then you will see that they are connected.

Here is my first character sheet of the Baby Shyala. I designed the background myself using a simple effect to give it a more professional feel and so it’s not just block colour. I chose colours that wouldn’t hinder the character, so only choosing colours that fit perfectly.

This is the theme i might use for the character sheets. I designed it myself with a simple effect to add texture so it’s not just block colour. Here’s a follow up on my Oolark character, I’ve added loads of shading on him because i dont think he will be as detailed as my Shyala so I want to shade him as much as possible to get him looking as professional as possible.

Also I got the eyes looking the way I want. I first had them jet black but that looked too unrealistic so i added white streaks on top so it looks more diluted and generally looks like an eye. I’m a bit behind, i’ll finish him tomorrow and catch up with my sketchbook work for the rest of the night. Not long to go now….

So this is the Shyala baby and adult side by side. I didn’t want to abandon my old design because i thought that was a decent design but in contrast my new one is much more professional.

So in my sketchbook i’m going to talk about how the baby grows and develops into an adult, explaining how he loses teeth and grows a shell. I’m going to say how the claws grow out of the fingers also because there are a few major differences that needs to be addressed and explained but i’ll do that.

I wanted to put them side by side to show how they differ….Enjoy :D

After 12 hours it’s finally done. I think this is much better than my previous design, i’ve added gradient and spot shading all around to make him look more 3D. The last thing i did was the mouth was a challenge in itself because this can show the most emotion. I went for a combination of comedic and anger styles to get the effect i wanted. Plan for Sunday will be my next and final design: the Oolark. It’s only another 12 hours worth of work >.<

I’ve changed my design ideas slightly, i’ll have enough time to design the Oolark character but for now I decided that the Shyala i designed was too basic so I’m making him the baby version and here is my progress on the adult Shyala.

As you can see there are many changes i’ve made to the design, giving him strong thick eyebrows so he show a little more expression. That and i’ve given him massive claws. So he is now a combination of a frog, turtle and some kind of big cat like a lion :D

Research is finished, researching the likes of Bill Finger, Mike Spalding and others did inspire me and you can see that in my characters, more Mike’s than anyone else. Basically for the Oolark i wanted to create a character who would be intimidating to look at but at the same time you would want to play as him in a game’s sense.

The Shyala character is finished now, basically i tried to make him skinny but also have that reptile look and feel to him, with his bulging eyes he can use them to detect enemies and use his hands as suction pads to scale trees, walls, anything to avoid their enemies.

Next on the agenda is to create character sheets for both of my characters. Hopefully this will be more interesting to look at in general than just showing my characters on their own, yeah it’s not bad but adding details about them will just make it more interesting and hopefully draw in the crowds at the showcase at the end of the month. The character sheets is planning to be finished at the end of the week, which after that i will have a week left to create them in Autodesk Maya.

So this is my final concept for the Shyala character, I’ve done concepts from the front, side and back (dat ass XD). Tonight’s work includes putting him into Illustrator (CS6) and see how things go :D
